    The Department of Immigration issues Entrepreneur Visa as part of Business Innovation and Investment visa programme to encourage new business investment and growth of existing business in Australia. Entrepreneurs who are looking for establishment of new business in Australia or for commercial execution of an idea or innovation can apply for this category of Visa.

  • Some of the major highlights in this category of Visa are a temporary Visa is issued for a period of 4 years in the initial stage. It is required to get a funding of $200,000 from a particular third party to establish a business in Australia. The applicant need to secure a minimum of inflow of 10% of agreed funds within a year of start of business. The applicant needs to be in the age group 55 years or less.
  • The applicant needs to initiate and execute a business activity in the country with long-term commitment, and he/she need to have minimum of 30% stake in the business. Apart from these required English language competency is needed. The business must be nominated and sponsored by any state or territorial government or Austrade. The applicant also needs to furnish an expression of interest (EOI) as part of Visa application process. Moreover the application needs to be invited through the SkillSelect system. A detailed business plan is also needed to be furnished by the applicant. Depending on applicant, business experience and qualification needs to be shared by the applicant.
  • An Entrepreneur visa holder can gradually get a permanent residency under subclass 888 after 4 years and in some cases earlier where the venture becomes successful. In a bid to obtain permanent residency, applicant needs to have 188 Visa for at least one year in the previous two years prior to applying for permanent residency.
  • Most requirements which are applicable to Entrepreneur Visa also applicable for other investments like Business Innovation, Investor, Significant Investor and Premium Investor etc. But an applicant need to prove that he/she has a minimum investment to the tune of $800,000 in government shares. A points test also applies in some cases. The applicant needs to spend a minimum period of time in Australia before being eligible to get permanent residency.
